Lightforce Company History
Dr. Alfred Griffin III's research during the 2015 Boston blizzard led him to a game-changing breakthrough in 3D printing. After three years of research and development, Dr. Griffin successfully created a 3D printed bracket made of ceramic polycrystalline alumina - a first in the industry.
To transform the industry, Dr. Griffin teamed up with Dr. Lou Shuman, a senior executive at Invisalign® during its early stages of hyper-growth, and a successful entrepreneur/CEO himself. With the help of key biomechanical engineers, hardware engineers, and software developers, the LightForce team brought a depth of experience in developing advanced dental systems.
In 2019, the company received formal FDA clearance and officially launched its complete system at the 2019 AAO Annual Session. LightForce's headquarters moved from Cambridge to Burlington in 2021, allowing for significant expansion in office and production space to accommodate the growing team.
In 2022, LightForce received the AAO Innovator Award, solidifying its position as a leading innovator in the orthodontic industry.
